During an international energy forum, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Energy, Elnur Soltanov, expressed the country's strategic focus on green hydrogen as part of its long-term energy vision. While Azerbaijan may not lead in hydrogen development globally, it is actively exploring green hydrogen solutions, particularly for energy storage. Soltanov highlighted the potential of using excess renewable energy, especially from offshore wind sources, to generate hydrogen, which could later be converted back to electricity or exported. Azerbaijan's significant offshore wind potential is considered a key driver for the country's green hydrogen prospects, with blue hydrogen also being seen as a viable option due to the nation's abundant natural gas reserves. However, the emphasis remains on prioritizing green energy pathways. The Deputy Minister acknowledged the evolving global perceptions around green hydrogen but remains optimistic due to the renewable potential in the Caspian region. He stressed the importance of collaboration between governments, investors, and innovators for building a successful hydrogen economy. This vision aligns with Azerbaijan's goal to create a symbiotic energy ecosystem and highlights the country's commitment to sustainable energy transition.
