BASF has positioned itself as the 'first producer of renewable ammonia in Central Europe' by implementing a groundbreaking process at its Verbund site in Ludwigshafen, Germany. By introducing green hydrogen into the ammonia plant, the company has achieved a significant reduction in gas consumption, supporting its sustainability goals. The renewable ammonia grades produced at the site have received certification according to ISCC+, ensuring their environmental credentials. Dr Jens Aßmann, the Vice President at BASF, has emphasized the product's very low carbon footprint, underlining the positive impact of this initiative. Earlier this year, BASF installed a 54MW electrolyser at the site to replace a notable amount of grey hydrogen with green hydrogen, further demonstrating its commitment to environmental responsibility and innovative production methods.
