Alkeymia, a key player in the renewable energy sector, has unveiled an ambitious green hydrogen and ammonia production project in Caspe, Spain. The €400 million initiative, which received a Regional Interest declaration in 2024, is set to contribute significantly to Aragon's energy transition and decarbonization objectives. The Hydrogen and Ammonia Production Plant, to be located at the El Portal industrial estate, is scheduled to commence construction in 2026, with operations starting in 2028. The project aims to produce 25,000 tons of green hydrogen and 165,000 tons of green ammonia annually. Plans include integrating the green hydrogen into the Enagás Hydrogen Trunk Network through an 8-kilometer pipeline, ensuring efficient supply to industrial and transportation sectors. Moreover, the use of rail transport for ammonia distribution will enhance sustainable logistics in the region. In terms of employment, the project is expected to generate 750 direct and indirect jobs during construction and 60 direct jobs once operational, providing a significant economic stimulus to Caspe and the wider Bajo Aragón region. Beyond economic benefits, the plant will serve as a focal point for green job creation, facilitate public-private partnerships, and contribute to the region's overall sustainability goals.
