The Hyundai HTWO Innovation Centre is set to be established at the Discovery Campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-Madras) in Thaiyur, near Chennai. This initiative is a result of a collaboration between IIT Madras, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), and Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state government's investment promotion agency. With a total project cost of Rs 180 crore, the centre, spanning 65,000 sqft, is scheduled to start operations by 2026. It will feature advanced laboratories for green hydrogen research, including infrastructure simulations, test rigs, and pilot zones for electrolyzers and fuel cells. The centre's development and operation will be overseen by IIT Madras, aiming to facilitate collaboration across academia, research labs, industry, and policy sectors. The launch event saw participation from officials of Hyundai, IIT Madras, CSIR-NCL, the Korean Consulate, and various stakeholders from academia, industry, and government. Additionally, IIT Madras has augmented its 'School Connect' Program by including 10 online certificate courses for students in Class 10, 11, and 12. These courses, along with the existing offerings in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and Electronic Systems, aim to provide hands-on learning opportunities for students from schools nationwide. Registration for the upcoming batch in August 2025 is ongoing, where schools can enroll their students in these courses for an eight-week duration.
