The Hyundai HTWO Innovation Centre was recently inaugurated at the Discovery Campus of IIT Madras in Thaiyur, Chennai, marking a significant step forward in green energy innovation. This Research and Development hub, focusing on green hydrogen technology, is a collaboration between Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), IIT Madras, and Guidance Tamil Nadu, with support from the state government. The Centre, covering 65,000 square feet, will host cutting-edge computational and experimental labs to accelerate research in green hydrogen. It will also facilitate digital twin development for hydrogen infrastructure, bespoke test rigs, fabrication lines, and areas for trialing industrial-scale hydrogen solutions. This initiative is part of HMIL's Rs 100 crore commitment to green hydrogen research in India, sponsored by the Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) as a CSR initiative. The Centre aims to boost local innovation, cultivate skilled talent, and promote scalable, affordable hydrogen technologies under Hyundai's global HTWO hydrogen platform. The Managing Director of HMIL highlighted the importance of hydrogen in achieving carbon neutrality and reaffirmed Hyundai's dedication to the 'Make in India' campaign. The Director of IIT Madras emphasized the Centre's role in strengthening India's self-sufficient aspirations and accelerating the country's journey towards net zero emissions by 2070. With a focus on local collaboration, public-private partnership, and workforce development, the Hyundai HTWO Innovation Centre is poised to become a pivotal national hub for green hydrogen innovation.
