Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced its entry into green hydrogen and green ammonia projects by securing a land in Kandla, Gujarat. The move comes amidst the Indian government's strong emphasis on green hydrogen as a clean energy source, supported by initiatives like the National Green Hydrogen Mission. L&T's Chairman & Managing Director, S N Subrahmanyan, highlighted the company's strides in emerging clean energy sectors, particularly green hydrogen and small modular reactors (SMRs). The company has already initiated electrolyser manufacturing, positioning itself as a frontrunner in the green hydrogen space. A significant milestone was the approval from the US Department of Energy for the transfer of SMR technology to India, with L&T being among the three eligible Indian entities, signifying the initiation of their SMR journey to lead in nuclear energy commercialization in the country. While L&T has collaborated with global partners for green hydrogen and SMRs, the long-term vision includes developing proprietary technology, manufacturing essential equipment, and delivering innovative and cost-effective solutions tailored for emerging markets. The acquisition of land in Kandla for manufacturing green hydrogen and green ammonia units further solidifies L&T's commitment. Additionally, the company is well-equipped to handle EPC projects in green hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol on a global scale. The establishment of L&T Green Energy Kandla Pvt Ltd underscores L&T's dedication to advancing green hydrogen projects, with a focus on producing green hydrogen through water electrolysis powered by renewable energy sources.
