Klaipėda Port in Lithuania is embarking on a groundbreaking journey towards green hydrogen production, setting the stage to become a pioneer in the Baltic region. The port's Director General, Algis Latakas, expressed the port's commitment to environmental sustainability and compliance with EU obligations through this ambitious project. The green hydrogen production station, to be housed in a 40-foot sea container, will cater to the energy needs of vessels, port equipment, and various modes of transportation. The upcoming construction phase, scheduled to commence in June, involves developing specialized infrastructure and engineering networks to facilitate hydrogen supply. With an annual production target of 127 tons, the station aims to meet the energy demands of both marine and land-based vehicles. Collaboration agreements with key stakeholders like the stevedoring company "Bega" and LTG Group underscore the port's strategic approach to integrating green hydrogen across different sectors, from terminal operations to railway transport. The project's financing, totaling around €12 million with substantial EU support, exemplifies a concerted effort to drive economic recovery, sustainability, and technological innovation.
