Sterlite Technologies Ltd (STL) has partnered with Hygenco to establish Maharashtra's first green hydrogen and oxygen production unit in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, dedicated to optical fibre production. This initiative marks a significant advancement in sustainable manufacturing as STL becomes one of the first optical fibre manufacturers worldwide to operate with 100% green hydrogen. The collaboration aims to supply green hydrogen and oxygen to STL's glass preform plant, emphasizing the reduction of the environmental footprint in optical fibre production. STL's CEO, Rahul Puri, and Hygenco's CEO, Amit Bansal, both highlight the importance of this project in achieving sustainable growth and decarbonizing industrial operations. By integrating green hydrogen, STL expects to cut annual carbon emissions by around 30% while enhancing efficiency and reliability with advanced automation and safety systems. The facility is built to Industry 4.0 standards and plays a crucial role in producing semiconductor-grade glass preforms essential for optical fibre manufacturing. Additionally, Hygenco's focus on large-scale green hydrogen and green ammonia infrastructure development, with plans to invest USD 2.5 billion for clean energy assets by 2030, further underscores the commitment to cleaner energy solutions and decarbonization efforts.
