India's green hydrogen aspirations received a significant boost through a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Juno Joule Green Energy and German firm Select Energy GmbH. The partnership, signed at the World Hydrogen Summit 2025, designates Select Energy as a co-developer and primary buyer for Juno Joule's flagship green hydrogen and ammonia facility in Andhra Pradesh. This initiative, located at Mulapeta port, is set to be one of India's largest integrated green hydrogen projects, focusing on meeting international certification standards and catering to markets in Europe, Japan, South Korea, and India. Select Energy brings expertise in hydrogen logistics, trading, and compliance to enhance the project's viability for export. The green hydrogen plant, slated to produce 180 KTPA by 2031, integrates advanced electrolysis systems, ammonia synthesis, and port infrastructure, supported by global technology partners. Adherence to EU Renewable Energy Directives and other regulatory conditions is a key focus, necessitating renewable energy sources and meticulous planning. The project's export orientation requires alignment with stringent EU certification standards, ensuring the use of electricity solely from renewable sources. To meet this, the developers are securing Power Purchase Agreements with solar and wind energy providers within the stipulated timeline. Additionally, the project emphasizes job creation, aiming to generate 6,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities while mitigating 1.8 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually. Local talent recruitment and upskilling are prioritized, with a focus on engaging communities in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Efforts are underway to bridge the skill gap through targeted training programs. This partnership not only propels India's green hydrogen exports but also lays the groundwork for sustainable economic growth and environmental responsibility.
