BASF SE and Plug Power Inc. have forged an innovative collaboration to boost the market offerings of hydrogen liquefaction plants globally. The Cooperation Agreement will see BASF's advanced DeOxo catalysts, particularly the Purivate Pd15 product, integrated into Plug Power's plants, aiming to improve reliability and cost efficiency for their clients. These catalysts have been qualified for use in hydrogen liquefaction plants and are set to enhance the purification process by efficiently removing oxygen at low temperatures, thereby reducing the reliance on costly precious metals. Additionally, BASF's Sorbead Air adsorbents, known for their energy-efficient dehydration properties for electrolyzed hydrogen, have also been approved for use in Plug Power's plants. The primary focus of this collaboration lies in plants with capacities of 30, 60, and 90 tons per day. BASF's success in the technical qualification process, supported by an extensive operating reference list, solidifies its position as a reliable and capable product provider in the hydrogen sector. Both companies express optimism about the partnership, with BASF highlighting its history and expertise in hydrogen purification and Plug Power emphasizing the confidence in BASF's capabilities to enhance economic viability for liquid hydrogen plants.
