Key Ideas
  • China Three Gorges Shanghai Investigation, Design & Research Institute completed a 720-hour real-sea trial with a floating offshore wind-powered hydrogen production system in Sanya.
  • The project involved technological breakthroughs in design, integration, and customization to ensure operational stability in offshore wind environments.
  • The success of the trial accelerates the development of China's energy system integrating renewable energy and hydrogen, providing strong technical support for future applications.
  • CTG-SIDRI aims to further research deep-sea hydrogen production technology and enhance the integration of offshore wind power and new energy hydrogen production.
China recently achieved a milestone with the successful completion of a 720-hour real-sea trial for a prototype of a floating offshore wind-powered hydrogen production and storage system. Developed by China Three Gorges Shanghai Investigation, Design & Research Institute, the system underwent testing in Yazhou Bay, Sanya. The project, a collaborative effort with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, involved over a year of technological advancements to ensure the system's stability and reliability in challenging marine conditions. The success of the trial paves the way for the integration of deep-sea renewable energy and hydrogen in China's energy system. CTG-SIDRI plans to continue exploring deep-sea hydrogen production technology to further enhance the offshore wind power and new energy hydrogen production industry chains.
