The Vietnam National Petroleum Group, Petrolimex, is launching a pilot program introducing E10 biofuel sales in Ho Chi Minh City to gauge consumer acceptance and assess their distribution network's readiness. This initiative is in line with the Ministry of Industry and Trade's plan for nationwide E10 adoption from 2026 to combat greenhouse gas emissions and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. E10, a gasoline product blended with 9-10% bioethanol, offers environmental advantages by reducing carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions, enhancing engine performance, and supporting emission reduction goals. Petrolimex aims to lead Vietnam's energy sector towards green, clean fuel products, incorporating Industry 4.0 technology and digital transformation, with biofuel trading playing a pivotal role. The company is enhancing its infrastructure, expanding ethanol blending capacity, and collaborating with ethanol producers to ensure stable fuel supply, while also exploring alternative fuels like hydrogen. Successful E10 deployment requires thorough infrastructure and technology preparation, prompting Petrolimex to propose detailed guidance from the MoIT for distributors to plan investments and technical upgrades. The Vietnam Petroleum Association emphasizes the necessity of a clear roadmap for businesses to prepare for E10, along with updating regulations and standards. The MoIT is taking measures to support E10 implementation, including ethanol price subsidies, finalizing technical standards, public communication, and expanding biofuel distribution networks across diverse regions.
