Adani Group Launches India's First Off-Grid Green Hydrogen Pilot Plant in Gujarat
Key Ideas
  • Adani Group commissions a 5 MW green hydrogen pilot plant in Kutch, Gujarat, powered by solar energy and a battery storage system.
  • The plant features state-of-the-art closed-loop electrolyser technology for efficient and safe green hydrogen production.
  • This project aligns with India's goal to become a global green hydrogen hub and includes plans for large-scale green hydrogen production ecosystems.
  • The initiative by Adani New Industries contributes to reducing emissions in industries through decentralised renewable-powered hydrogen production.
Adani Group has recently unveiled India's first off-grid five MW green hydrogen pilot plant in Kutch, Gujarat, marking a significant milestone for India's National Green Hydrogen Mission. Developed by Adani New Industries (ANIL), the plant is entirely powered by solar energy and features a battery energy storage system (BESS) to ensure uninterrupted operation. Through electrolysis using renewable power, the plant produces green hydrogen in a fully automated, closed-loop system that optimizes efficiency and safety. The project is highlighted as a groundbreaking advancement in decentralised, renewable-powered hydrogen production for emissions-intensive industries. Green hydrogen, known for emitting only water vapour during use, is considered the cleanest form of energy. This initiative is in line with India's vision to establish itself as a global green hydrogen hub. ANIL, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises, is also working on developing larger green hydrogen ecosystems including green ammonia, methanol, SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel), and renewable energy manufacturing infrastructure in Mundra, Gujarat. The innovative approach by Adani Group signifies a step towards sustainable energy practices, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions in industries by promoting renewable-powered hydrogen production.
