Australia recently announced a substantial investment of A$432 million in Orica's green hydrogen project located in the Hunter Valley. This initiative, led by the world's largest explosives maker, aims to transform Orica's operations by shifting towards green hydrogen to reduce emissions and facilitate the production of green ammonia for various sectors, including mining and manufacturing. Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen highlighted the importance of this funding in securing Australia's energy future and advancing the country's net-zero ambitions. The project is a significant boost for Australia's green hydrogen sector, which has been facing uncertainties due to project delays and cancellations. Despite recent setbacks in the industry, Orica's project stands out as a beacon of hope, especially after the collapse of the A$12.5 billion CQ-H2 plant in Queensland. The support from the Australian government is crucial in bridging the commercial gap for the Hunter Valley Hydrogen Hub, enabling progress towards decarbonization goals. Orica's CEO, Sanjeev Gandhi, expressed optimism about contributing to decarbonization efforts for both domestic and international customers.
