The European Commission has approved a new disbursement of €614 million to Belgium under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), part of the NextGenerationEU plan. This funding follows a positive assessment indicating that Belgium has met 21 milestones and 14 targets in its national recovery plan. Of the approved amount, €594 million will be provided as non-repayable aid, while €20 million will be allocated as loans for supporting structural reforms and investments across various sectors. Key areas of focus include the energy transition, development of hydrogen transport infrastructure, renewable energy sources, and the expansion of electric vehicle charging networks. The plan also entails reforms in childcare and education infrastructure, vocational training, artificial intelligence promotion, cybersecurity enhancement, urban mobility investments, and railways. Additionally, there will be funding for energy renovation in private and social housing to reduce energy consumption, lower bills, and combat energy poverty. The disbursement is pending approval from the Economic and Financial Committee (EFC) before final authorization.
