Emsteel, the parent company of Emirates Steel, has launched a pioneering green finance framework in the UAE to drive environmental initiatives such as green steel, cement, solar energy, and energy-efficient technologies. The framework allows Emsteel and its subsidiaries to raise funds through green bonds, loans, and medium-term notes (MTNs) in multiple currencies, dedicated solely to projects meeting stringent environmental standards. Emsteel's CEO expressed that this initiative is more than just a financial tool, serving as a strategic accelerator for transitioning to a low-carbon economy, in alignment with global green finance norms. The program's credibility was further solidified by receiving a 'Very Good' rating from Moody’s Ratings, enhancing investor trust. Emsteel also announced ambitious climate goals, aiming to slash greenhouse gas emissions in the steel and cement sectors by 2030. Noteworthy is Emirates Steel's green hydrogen pilot project planned for 2024, marking a significant step towards sustainable practices in the region.
