The EU Commission has granted support of €3.5 million to the cross-border hydrogen projects RHYn and RHYn Interco, linking France and Baden-Württemberg. The funding, from the 'Connecting Europe Facility for Energy' program, aims to advance the sustainable energy infrastructure and facilitate hydrogen transport between the two regions. The RHYn Interco project is crucial for establishing a 100% hydrogen network in Baden-Württemberg, connecting Freiburg im Breisgau with hydrogen production in France. This initiative, part of the PCI projects identified by the EU Commission, is seen as vital for ensuring a secure and climate-friendly energy supply. The project partners, including terranets bw, NaTran, and badenovaNETZE, are working on creating diversified routes for hydrogen import in Germany, enhancing the nation's hydrogen infrastructure. By 2029, consumers in the Upper Rhine region are expected to benefit from this network, with future plans to extend the hydrogen supply to areas like Offenburg and Kehl by 2035. The project's significance is highlighted by the European Union's funding, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives for sustainable energy development in Europe.
