The European Commission has announced the selection of 15 renewable hydrogen projects within the European Economic Area eligible for financial support, totaling EUR 992 million in subsidies. These projects aim to produce nearly 2.2 million tons of green hydrogen over the next ten years, with the potential to avoid over 15 million tons of CO2 emissions. Sectors like transportation, chemicals, methanol, and ammonia are set to benefit from these initiatives. The subsidies, part of the Innovation Fund financed by the EU's Emissions Trading System, are designed to bridge the price gap between production costs and market prices, facilitating the transition to cleaner fuels. Notable projects include the Zeevonk Electrolyser in the Netherlands and the Kristinestad PtX facility in Finland, with significant green hydrogen production targets.
