Luoto Energia: A Major Step in Green Transition at Port of Rauma, Finland
Key Ideas
- TES and CPC Finland partner to establish Luoto Energia, a company focused on a large-scale e-NG project at the Port of Rauma, with an electrolyzer capacity of up to 500 MW.
- The project aims to produce 60,000 tons of green hydrogen convertible into over 125,000 tons of e-NG annually, supporting decarbonization in maritime and industrial sectors.
- The collaboration between TES and CPC Finland includes joint planning, permitting, and aiming for the final investment decision by 2028, contributing to the green transition and energy independence in Europe.
- TES also explores partnerships with Japanese entities, such as Advantage Partners and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line), to advance e-NG projects and promote net-zero greenhouse gas emissions in the maritime sector by 2050.
Tree Energy Solutions (TES) and CPC Finland have formed Luoto Energia, a joint venture to develop a large-scale e-NG project at the Port of Rauma in Finland. The project will have an electrolyzer capacity of up to 500 MW, aiming to produce 60,000 tons of green hydrogen annually that can be converted into over 125,000 tons of e-NG. This initiative will aid in the decarbonization of maritime and industrial sectors where direct electrification is not feasible. The site, covering 20 hectares, is set to be located in the Port of Rauma's extension area at Iso Järviluoto. The partners plan to progress through planning, permitting, and engineering phases to reach the final investment decision by 2028.
The CEOs of TES and CPC Finland expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the project's significance in the energy transition. The Port of Rauma's Managing Director also commended the progress and economic benefits the project brings to the region. Additionally, TES is in discussions with Japanese entities to scale up e-NG production and accelerate the adoption of green energy in the maritime sector, aiming for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
