The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has announced the availability of $3.9 million to support the development of innovative maritime solutions for transporting clean hydrogen within the state. This funding is intended to facilitate the delivery and distribution of clean hydrogen by advancing new or retrofitted vessels. The initiative aims to overcome logistical and economic challenges posed by land-based transportation options, potentially resulting in significant cost reductions and operational efficiencies. The Maritime Hydrogen Transport solicitation, part of NYSERDA's Advanced Fuels and Thermal Energy Storage Program, seeks proposals from qualified teams to develop vessels capable of delivering a minimum of 20,000 kilograms of clean hydrogen per shipment over a minimum distance of 100 nautical miles. Eligible project teams must include maritime or naval architects, shipyards, vessel operators, and a clean hydrogen fuel supplier. Preference will be given to teams with experience in designing, building, and operating vessels for clean hydrogen transportation. A minimum 50% cost-share from non-NYSERDA funding sources is required. Proposals must adhere to maritime and hydrogen safety standards and engage with local communities, including disadvantaged and low-income communities.
