Oman has initiated its third green hydrogen auction round in Duqm, demonstrating its commitment to becoming a key player in the global green hydrogen market. Led by Hydrom, the auction aims to attract developers to invest in Oman's growing hydrogen sector. This round comes with enhanced opportunities and lessons from previous auctions to boost competitiveness. The offered land block in Duqm spans up to 300 sq km, allowing developers to propose projects covering a minimum of 100 sq km. Bidders have the flexibility to design their project footprint within the block, aligning with their strategies and market needs. The timeline provides a generous nine-month preparation period from RFQ launch to bid submission, promoting thorough project planning. The auction process has begun with the RFQ release, and qualified bidders will submit proposals in early 2026. Successful projects are expected to contribute to Oman's net-zero carbon emissions goal by 2050, with significant investment commitments exceeding $49bn. These projects, powered by over 30 GW of renewable energy, aim to collectively produce over 1mn tonnes per annum of green hydrogen by 2030, positioning Oman as a leading player in the global hydrogen market. Oman's strategic advantages, including infrastructure access, regulatory stability, and proximity to key markets, enhance the appeal for developers participating in this auction.
