The Sultanate of Oman has launched its third green hydrogen auction round, signaling its ambition to become a prominent global hub for green hydrogen production and export. Managed by Hydrom, the auction aims to attract qualified developers to invest in Oman's growing hydrogen ecosystem and contribute to establishing a competitive global green hydrogen economy. The auction, located in Duqm, offers a land block of up to 300 square kilometers, with developers encouraged to propose projects covering a minimum of 100 square kilometers. This round allows bidders flexibility in defining their project footprint within the block, enabling customized configurations to align with their strategies and market needs. Additionally, developers have the opportunity to sell surplus renewable electricity to the national grid, further maximizing project value and integration into Oman's broader energy transition plan. Oman's dedication to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 is evident through its commitment to green hydrogen projects, with over USD 49 billion in investment secured for projects with a production capacity exceeding 1 million tons per annum by 2030. The country's comprehensive efforts also include plans for a 2,000-kilometer hydrogen pipeline and the establishment of a liquid hydrogen export corridor connecting Oman to Europe. With the recent release of the Request for Qualification, developers are gearing up to submit proposals in early 2026, marking another milestone in Oman's journey towards a sustainable and innovative hydrogen future.
