- Key projects by Smartenergy, Power2X, and Redexis to receive funding for the production of green hydrogen, contributing to Spain's decarbonization efforts.
- The projects involve substantial investments and capacity for green hydrogen production, positioning Spain as an emerging player in the green energy market.
- The construction of green hydrogen production plants in Soria and Castellón signifies a significant step towards achieving Spain's renewable energy goals.
In a significant development for Spain's renewable energy sector, three key projects have secured a total of €377 million in European aid for the production of green hydrogen. The Vice President for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, Sara Aagesen, led a meeting of the renewable hydrogen advisory group, emphasizing the importance of regulatory developments to support Spain's growth strategy for decarbonization.
The projects located in Saceruela, Garray, and Onda will receive funding under the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, with investments allocated to companies like Smartenergy, Power2X, and Redexis. These investments will support the construction of green hydrogen production plants, with expected capacities totaling 485 megawatts.
The Orange.bat project by Smartenergy in Onda aims to produce 120,000 tons of green hydrogen annually, while the ErasmoPower2x project by Power2X and Soto Solar in Saceruela will have a 1.2 GW photovoltaic plant and produce 55,000 tons of green hydrogen. Additionally, SOMACYL and Redexis are collaborating on a green hydrogen production plant in Garray, with a capacity of 2.5 MW and an annual production target of 300,000 tons.
These developments mark a significant milestone in Spain's green hydrogen revolution, positioning the country as a key player in the transition to sustainable energy. The projects reflect a positive sentiment towards hydrogen, highlighting the potential for growth and innovation in the renewable energy sector.
