Wood Chosen by Shell for Oman's 'Blue Horizons' Project Pre-FEED Services
Key Ideas
  • Wood selected by Shell for pre-FEED services for Oman's 'Blue Horizons' project to produce low carbon blue hydrogen and ammonia.
  • The project is the first large-scale initiative of its kind in Oman and will involve capturing and storing CO2 from production.
  • Wood will utilize its CO2 and blue hydrogen expertise to design the integrated production facility, marine facilities, pipeline, and CO2 injection facility.
  • Global teams from the UK, Ireland, Italy, India, and Oman will collaborate to complete the project by 2025, driving progress in Oman's adoption of zero-carbon fuels.
Shell has chosen Wood to provide pre-front end engineering design (pre-FEED) services for the 'Blue Horizons' project in Oman. This innovative project aims to produce low carbon blue hydrogen and ammonia for both local and international markets while also incorporating the capture and storage of CO2 emissions from production processes. The development, considered the first large-scale project of its kind in Oman, will involve the design of an integrated production facility for blue hydrogen and ammonia, marine facilities for ammonia storage, a 200-kilometer pipeline, and a CO2 injection facility. Giuseppe Zuccaro, President of Process & Chemicals at Wood, expressed enthusiasm about the project's potential to drive Oman's transition to zero-carbon fuels. Wood plans to leverage its expertise in CO2 and blue hydrogen to support Shell in this endeavor. The collaboration will involve global teams from various countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, India, and Oman, and is slated for completion by 2025, signifying a significant step forward in Oman's sustainability efforts.
