Coal India Limited (CIL) has announced plans to provide 4500 MW of carbon-free energy to AM Green's green ammonia facilities, marking one of the largest renewable energy contracts globally. This initiative involves a phased approach to supply energy through a combination of solar and wind power, reflecting India's commitment to cleaner energy sources and achieving net-zero emissions. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in May between CIL and AM Green for the long-term supply and sourcing of renewable energy. The solar power capacity is set to range from 2500 MW to 3000 MW, while the wind capacity will be between 1500 MW and 2000 MW, with an estimated investment of around Rs. 25,000 Crores. Potential locations for wind projects are being explored in India's southern states, while solar plants are planned for states like Gujarat and Rajasthan. AM Green, backed by the founders of Greenko, a prominent energy solutions provider in India, aims to produce 5 million tons per annum of green ammonia by 2030. This production target includes around 1 million tons per annum of green hydrogen, contributing significantly to India's green hydrogen production goals under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The collaboration between CIL and AM Green emphasizes the shift towards a more sustainable energy future. The integration of renewable energy sources with pumped hydro storage by AM Green ensures a consistent supply of green energy to its facilities. The partnership not only highlights the importance of renewable energy but also underscores the broader transition towards green hydrogen and clean energy solutions in India.
