SGN and Fife College have inaugurated the UK's first hydrogen training centre at Fife College's Levenmouth Campus. The facility aims to train over 100 Gas Safe registered engineers this year to equip them with the skills required to convert homes from natural gas to hydrogen. This training is crucial for SGN's green hydrogen trial, H100 Fife, which will supply green hydrogen to homes in Levenmouth through a newly established network. The centre provides hands-on experience with hydrogen appliances and systems, supported by top manufacturers, to ensure engineers can safely install, test, and maintain hydrogen technologies in domestic settings. Each engineer will receive an official hydrogen qualification alongside their Gas Safe registration. The collaboration between SGN and Fife College underscores their commitment to sustainability and clean energy skills. The project also involves key stakeholders like BPEC, Energy & Utility Skills, and IGEM. The CEO of SGN emphasizes the role of the training centre in advancing the use of green gases such as hydrogen for decarbonizing properties. Fife College's Principal highlights their dedication to providing the necessary skills and infrastructure for a sustainable future, positioning the college as a national leader in clean energy. Engineers from SGN, Baxi, Worcester Bosch, and Warmworks will assist in converting natural gas homes to hydrogen as part of the H100 Fife trial launching soon. This initiative also includes training Fife Council staff to prepare them for future challenges in the energy sector.
