Air Liquide has confirmed the final investment decision to initiate the construction of ELYgator, a 200 MW electrolyzer project in Maasvlakte, situated in the Port of Rotterdam, Netherlands. This significant step forward underscores Air Liquide's dedication to fostering low-carbon hydrogen production and facilitating the decarbonization of European industrial requirements. The project, which will be realized by investing over 500 million euros, aims to produce 23,000 tons of renewable hydrogen annually, primarily catering to industrial and heavy-duty mobility customers, with the potential to cut down up to 300,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year. The support from the Dutch government, notably through the OWE subsidy scheme, coupled with previous backing from the European Innovation Fund and the Dutch IPCEI program, has been pivotal in advancing the ELYgator project. This initiative is unique as it integrates both Proton Exchange Membrane and Alkaline technologies on the same site, showcasing Air Liquide's commitment to leveraging diverse solutions in the renewable hydrogen sector. The project is projected to start operations by the close of 2027.
