Tallinn Airport is envisioning a future where a green hydrogen and methanol production complex could operate on the grounds of Pärnu Airport in Estonia. The airport has taken the initiative by submitting a request to begin a detailed spatial plan for the establishment of a production complex that would focus on solar energy, green hydrogen, and green methanol. The proposed complex would feature a hydrogen electrolyzer, a methanol synthesis plant, and storage facilities for both products. Part of the hydrogen produced would be utilized to fuel vehicles that service the airport, contributing to its sustainability goals, while the methanol would be transported to the Port of Muuga. Riivo Tuvike from Tallinn Airport's management board mentioned that the primary aim of the project is to provide a location for potential developers to establish production. The airport has available land that can be developed to accommodate solar parks and a portion of the production complex. This development is seen as a means to increase revenue for Pärnu Airport and enhance its operational sustainability.
