Austria's OMV energy, chemicals, and fuels company announced the approval of funds to construct an electrolysis plant for producing green hydrogen. The company, headquartered in Vienna, allocated hundreds of millions of euros for this project, in line with European Union targets for green energy. The planned 140-megawatt plant in Bruck an der Leitha, southeast of Vienna, aims to have an annual capacity of up to 23,000 metric tons of green hydrogen, making it one of the largest in the EU. This initiative signifies a push towards sustainable energy production. Concurrently, RWE, a German energy concern, is set to provide green hydrogen to its Leipzig refinery by 2030, with production from a 300MW electrolysis plant in Lingen, Germany, scheduled for completion in 2027. This development highlights the increasing momentum towards green hydrogen across Europe, emphasizing the importance of electrolysis plants in advancing towards a more sustainable energy future.
