Larsen & Toubro's subsidiary, L&T Energy GreenTech, has announced plans to establish India's first largest green hydrogen plant at the Indian Oil Corporation's Panipat refinery. The plant aims to deliver 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually to Indian Oil for a period of 25 years. It will utilize high-pressure alkaline electrolysers manufactured at L&T Electrolysers' plant in Hazira, Gujarat. This initiative aligns with Indian Oil's strategy to decarbonize its refining operations and contribute to India's net-zero objectives. The green hydrogen facility will be developed on a build-own-operate basis and will operate continuously through renewable energy sources. This move is seen as a significant progress towards cleaner industrial processes at scale in India. The project is scheduled for completion by December 2027 and is expected to replace the use of fossil-derived hydrogen, leading to a substantial reduction in carbon emissions.
