JGL to Lead Trenchless Crossings for Hydrogen Pipeline in HyNet North West Project
Key Ideas
  • JGL to oversee the design and construction of 53 trenchless crossings for the 35km hydrogen pipeline in HyNet North West project.
  • The project includes the installation of shafts for tunnel boring machine crossings, with drives ranging from 55 to 260 meters.
  • Significant crossings like a 36-inch passage beneath the River Dee and an HDD crossing will be part of the project.
  • Approximately 160 staff will be employed by JGL to work on the project.
JGL has been tasked to lead the trenchless crossings for a hydrogen distribution network in the HyNet North West project. This initiative aims to provide clean fuel to industrial users. The project involves the construction of 53 trenchless crossings along a 35km pipeline route. These crossings are vital for ensuring the safe installation of the pipeline beneath critical infrastructure and natural features. The scope of work includes installing shafts to facilitate tunnel boring machine crossings, with drives exceeding 100 meters in length. Moreover, there will be various TBM drives, including 12 drives ranging from 55 to 260 meters in length. Additionally, the project entails crossings such as a 20-inch Horizontal Directional Drilling crossing and a significant 36-inch passage beneath the River Dee. Furthermore, there will be two 20-inch auger crossings and thirty-seven 36-inch crossings to ensure the seamless and safe passage beneath existing infrastructure and natural features. Approximately 160 staff will be employed by JGL to execute the project, showcasing a significant employment opportunity in the hydrogen infrastructure sector.
