Bankstown Airport in Australia has made history by becoming the first airport in the Southern Hemisphere to host hydrogen fuel, paving the way for a sustainable future in aviation. Currently, ground testing is ongoing for AMSL Aero's Vertiia eVTOL aircraft at Bankstown, with hydrogen fuel cylinders in use. CEO Daniel Jarosch of Aeria Management Group, the owner of Bankstown Airport, expressed optimism about the tests, positioning Bankstown as a hub for the future of Australian aviation. AMSL Aero's CEO, Max York, emphasized the significance of their collaboration with Bankstown Airport, highlighting Australia's potential to lead the global transition towards sustainable aviation with hydrogen as a key fuel source. Vertiia, designed to have a range of up to 1000km when powered by hydrogen, is set to revolutionize air travel with its first test flight scheduled for 2025 and commercial operations planned for 2027. The aircraft, capable of carrying passengers and conducting services between regional locations at high speeds, is seen as a game-changer for the industry. AMSL Aero's innovative approach, supported by funding from the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), aims to develop hydrogen fuel cell technology for Vertiia, with the goal of enabling efficient and environmentally friendly long-distance flights in various sectors.
