The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in India has put forth a proposal to introduce a new style of number plate specifically tailored for vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel. This initiative is part of India's strategy to promote cleaner transport alternatives in line with its commitment to environmental sustainability. The draft notification, announced recently, outlines that each category of hydrogen vehicle will feature a distinct number plate design to facilitate easy identification on roadways. Commercial hydrogen vehicles will sport a number plate divided into green and blue sections with yellow characters, while private hydrogen cars will have similar colors but with white letters and figures. Additionally, rental hydrogen cabs will display a number plate with a black top half and blue bottom half, complemented by yellow numbers. The introduction of these specialized number plates reflects the government's larger efforts to endorse eco-friendly fuels and advance the adoption of sustainable transportation solutions. Through this measure, India aims to bolster the visibility and awareness of hydrogen vehicles, contributing to the country's ongoing transition towards a more environmentally conscious and greener transportation ecosystem.
