INERATEC Secures Funding for Europe's Largest Sustainable e-Fuel Plant in Frankfurt
Key Ideas
- INERATEC, a sustainable e-fuel leader, secured a 70 million euro investment from EIB and Breakthrough Energy Catalyst for a new plant in Frankfurt to produce synthetic aviation fuel.
- The plant will use biogenic sources for hydrogen and CO2, converting them into sustainable aviation fuel, marine fuels, and e-diesel, reducing carbon footprint.
- The project aligns with the European ReFuelEU Aviation regulation, aiming to use at least 1.2% e-SAF by 2030, providing a significant market opportunity for INERATEC.
- The funding from EIB and Breakthrough Energy Catalyst will accelerate the industrialization of e-Fuel production, contributing to a greener future in aviation and reducing CO2 emissions.
INERATEC, a key player in sustainable e-fuel production, has secured a substantial investment package to establish Europe's largest sustainable e-Fuel production plant in Frankfurt, Germany. The 70 million euro investment comprises a venture debt loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) and a grant from Breakthrough Energy Catalyst. This initiative aims to further research and development in decarbonizing aviation by utilizing green hydrogen and CO2 to produce synthetic aviation fuel.
The plant's location outside Frankfurt will source CO2 from a biogas plant and hydrogen from a chlorine production facility. By converting these biogenic sources into synthetic crude oil, INERATEC's technology will enable the production of sustainable aviation fuel, marine fuels, and e-diesel, thereby reducing the carbon footprint associated with conventional fuel production.
The new plant's annual production capacity of up to 2,500 tons of e-Fuel will help meet the increasing demand for sustainable aviation fuel, aligning with the European ReFuelEU Aviation regulation. This regulation mandates airlines to incorporate at least 1.2% e-SAF by 2030, presenting a clear market opportunity for INERATEC's products.
The support from EIB and Breakthrough Energy Catalyst signifies a significant milestone for INERATEC in accelerating the industrialization of e-Fuel production. This funding will play a crucial role in making synthetic fuels more economically viable and fostering a transition towards greener transportation solutions, particularly in challenging-to-decarbonize sectors like aviation.
