Moeve, formerly known as Cepsa, and Zaffra, a joint venture between Sasol and Topsoe, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on developing e-SAF facilities in Southern Spain. This partnership aims to advance European aviation fuel decarbonisation, in line with the ReFuelEU Aviation targets set by the EU. The project will focus on developing e-SAF facilities that align with the ambitious green hydrogen project, the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley, led by Moeve. The ultimate goal is to have at least 6% of all aviation fuel supplied at EU airports be sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) by 2030. Additionally, the collaboration targets the inclusion of 1.2% of synthetic fuels like e-SAF. This initiative is part of the broader Fit for 55 package, designed to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality by 2050. Both companies expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, with Moeve's EVP highlighting the importance of accelerating the energy transition in aviation and Zaffra's CEO emphasizing the significance of developing Spain's first e-SAF plants. The partnership is set to drive innovation in sustainable aviation and contribute to achieving the EU's climate goals through the development of clean, scalable solutions for the aviation industry.
