French maritime company Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) and Technip Energies, two industry leaders, have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate on a groundbreaking project involving a vessel that will store ammonia and convert it into hydrogen. The FRESH solution, a mobile processing and storage facility for low-carbon ammonia and hydrogen, will feature a 170-meter-long vessel equipped with an advanced ammonia cracking plant to produce high-purity gaseous hydrogen. This innovative approach is expected to yield up to 50,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually with exceptional energy efficiency. The vessel will act as a flexible floating terminal, stationed at ports and replenished by ammonia carriers, thus enhancing the distribution of low-carbon hydrogen. Technip Energies' cutting-edge technology and LDA's expertise in hull design and operation will synergize to reduce greenhouse gas and nitrogen oxide emissions significantly. This ambitious partnership aims to revolutionize the hydrogen supply chain by offering decentralized production and leveraging maritime infrastructure. Both companies express a strong commitment to sustainable technology and the global energy transition, emphasizing the importance of scalable and efficient solutions for a low-carbon future.
