The tug industry celebrated innovation and sustainability at the TUGTECHNOLOGY '25 conference and exhibition in Antwerp-Bruges, Belgium. Port of Antwerp-Bruges was honored as Tug Owner of the Year 2025 for its pioneering efforts in operating highly efficient, low-emission tugs, including the world's first hydrogen tug, methanol-fueled tugboat, and battery-electric tug. The Hydrotug 1, using compressed hydrogen fuel, has been operating successfully since December 2024, contributing to zero-emission ship handling. Additionally, Damen Shipyards delivered six RSD tugboats to the port, furthering its commitment to sustainability by introducing tugs with energy storage systems and battery-operated capabilities. The ITS Awards highlighted industry leaders such as LNG Sentinel I, which won Tug of the Year 2025 for its remarkable bollard pull and safety contributions at an import terminal in Hong Kong. The event also recognized innovative technologies, such as remote operation units and hydrogen-powered retrofitted tugboats, showcasing the industry's progress towards environmental sustainability and operational excellence.
