  • The FRESH vessel will have a storage capacity of 45,000 cubic meters for ammonia, converting it into hydrogen with high purity and energy efficiency.
  • Technip Energies will provide the ammonia cracking technology, while LDA will oversee the vessel's design, construction, and operations, aiming for low emissions.
  • The collaboration signifies a significant step towards a floating low-carbon hydrogen terminal to serve industries and heavy mobility sectors with clean energy.
Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Technip Energies to collaborate on the development of a groundbreaking hydrogen solution. This initiative involves the creation of the FRESH vessel, a 170-meter-long ship equipped with a storage capacity of 45,000 cubic meters for ammonia. The vessel will utilize an onboard cracking plant to convert ammonia into hydrogen, producing 50,000 tonnes of hydrogen annually with high purity levels and impressive energy efficiency exceeding 90%. The generated hydrogen will be compressed and transferred to shore to supply industries and heavy mobility sectors. Notably, the vessel is designed to be movable according to the fluctuating demand for hydrogen. Technip Energies will contribute its expertise in ammonia cracking technology to integrate this component into the FRESH vessel, while LDA will be responsible for overseeing the hull design, construction, and operational aspects of the project. Mathieu Muzeau, Transport & Logistics Managing Director at LDA, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Technip Energies, emphasizing the importance of integrating their cutting-edge technology to create a reliable and environmentally friendly solution with minimal greenhouse gas and NOx emissions. Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) is a prominent French maritime company with diversified operations encompassing shipowning, logistics services, and marine engineering in sectors such as dry bulk transportation and offshore services. On the other hand, Technip Energies is a global engineering and technology firm at the forefront of the energy transition, offering services in project management, engineering, and construction tailored to the energy industry's evolving needs, including projects related to hydrogen, biofuels, and carbon capture. The collaboration between LDA and Technip Energies represents a significant advancement in the development of sustainable energy solutions, particularly in the maritime and hydrogen sectors, underscoring the joint commitment to innovation, efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
