South Korea's Hyundai Motor has inaugurated a new hydrogen energy research and development center in Guangzhou, China, with the objective of advancing hydrogen mobility technology in the prominent fuel cell market of China. The center, situated within Hyundai's HTWO Guangzhou plant, is dedicated to developing and implementing hydrogen technologies tailored for the Chinese market. Following a memorandum of understanding signed in November between Guangzhou, Ulsan, and Hyundai Motor Group, the center's launch aims to enhance collaboration in the hydrogen industry. Hyundai plans to meet the rising demand in China's hydrogen fuel cell market and play a leading role in global hydrogen mobility solutions. The company's immediate plans involve introducing demonstration commercial vehicles like hydrogen buses and logistics vans to demonstrate technology reliability. Moving forward, Hyundai aims to expand to high-powered vehicles such as garbage trucks and tractors, ultimately striving to independently create next-generation fuel cell systems in China. The HTWO Guangzhou plant, established in 2023, is Hyundai's inaugural international hydrogen fuel cell system facility, serving as a comprehensive hub for R&D, production, and sales. The inclusion of the new R&D center solidifies Hyundai's integrated system, connecting all technology development stages from design to on-site application.
