In the first half of 2025, the Italian market for buses over 8 tons saw a decline to 1,959 new vehicles from 2,496 in the same period of 2024, marking a 21.5% decrease according to ANFIA data. Despite the overall decline, there was a notable increase in electric bus registrations, which rose from 218 to 353 units, reflecting a growing commitment to decarbonization. Battery-electric buses made up 18% of total volumes and 43% of new registrations in the urban segment. Urban buses remained the largest segment, with 781 registrations, while intercity buses experienced a significant drop to 566 units and coach registrations increased to 602 units. Iveco Bus led the market with 598 units, followed by Daimler Buses with 421 units, and Solaris with 216 units. Notably, hydrogen-powered buses reached 7 units in the market. Diesel buses still dominated but decreased, while CNG buses and hybrid diesel-electric vehicles also saw declines. Manufacturers like Karsan, Yutong, BYD, Bluebus, and Rampini showed growth in electric bus registrations.
