Suffolk County Transit has awarded a contract to New Flyer of America Inc. for the delivery of 132 buses over the next five years. The order includes 92 Xcelsior hybrid-electric 35-foot buses and 40 Xcelsior CHARGE NG battery-electric 40-foot buses. This order, added to New Flyer’s backlog in the first quarter of 2025, reinforces the value of New Flyer's platform's flexibility and dependability. Chris Stoddart, NFI's president of North American bus and coach, highlighted that the common Xcelsior platform allows agencies to operate hybrid and battery-electric buses efficiently by sharing parts, tools, and training. The aim of these new buses is to enhance service reliability, passenger comfort, and long-term operating efficiency for residents in Suffolk County, N.Y. Suffolk County Transit, which operates fixed routes, on-demand zones, and paratransit services in the county, already has 73 Xcelsior hybrid-electric 35-foot buses in service.
