The Scottish Africa Business Association (SABA) and the Egyptian British Chamber of Commerce (EBCC) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the All-Energy Conference 2025 to boost trade and investment relations between Scotland and Egypt. This partnership aims to strengthen ties by facilitating activities like bringing Egyptian business delegations to Scotland, organizing joint webinars, and planning a Scottish trade mission to Egypt in 2026. With Egypt's focus on becoming a regional leader in green hydrogen production and decarbonisation, there are significant opportunities for Scottish companies, especially in sectors like energy, maritime, and education. Egypt's heavy investments in traditional and renewable power, including offshore wind and solar projects, align with Scotland's global leadership in these areas. Additionally, Egypt's strategic position as a maritime hub creates prospects for Scottish companies in shipbuilding, port development, and marine engineering. The country's emphasis on upskilling its workforce also complements Scottish strengths in higher education and vocational training. Seona Shand of SABA highlighted the vast potential for collaboration with Egyptian businesses in various sectors where Scotland excels, paving the way for innovative partnerships in green hydrogen, renewable energy, and maritime services. Mark Lawrence from EBCC expressed optimism for the partnership, seeing significant potential to connect businesses and develop mutually beneficial relationships. This collaboration signifies SABA's dedication to expanding opportunities for its members in key African markets and fostering sustainable partnerships that drive trade, investment, and shared growth.
