Akyamfoɔ Asafo Boakye Agyemang-Bonsu, the newly appointed Chairman of the Governing Council at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), unveiled an ambitious roadmap to propel the university to global eminence in science and innovation. Speaking at the 286th Regular Meeting of the Governing Council in Elmina, Ghana, he articulated a transformative vision centered around five key imperatives. The strategy encompasses creating multidisciplinary Grand Challenge Institutes to tackle societal issues, establishing an Innovation Bridge to support research commercialization, and fostering collaborations with renowned institutions. A Governance Excellence Framework will enhance transparency and performance evaluation, while an Innovation Moonshot Fund will fuel high-risk research ventures. Akyamfoɔ Agyemang-Bonsu also emphasized the vital roles of artificial intelligence, green hydrogen, and gender equity in driving technological advancement, urging KNUST to pioneer these fields while maintaining a human-centric approach. He stressed the need for a holistic academic approach that merges technical expertise with ethical values and cultural relevance. Additionally, he called for the creation of West Africa's first green hydrogen hub and advocated for increased female participation in STEM fields. The Chairman's vision encompasses not only producing graduates but also fostering solutions, industries, and prosperity for Ghana and beyond. Amidst the strategic planning for the university's future, the Chairman urged rapid and visionary development of a new 2026–2030 blueprint.
