The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has partnered with Pusan National University to drive advancements in hydrogen technologies for the maritime industry. The collaboration focuses on the development of a liquid hydrogen carrier and hydrogen propulsion systems. While hydrogen is seen as crucial for decarbonising shipping, its storage at cryogenic temperatures of -253°C presents significant technical hurdles for mass transport. This collaboration aims to address these challenges, with the goal of facilitating the wider integration of hydrogen in the shipping sector. Patrick Ryan, Senior Vice President at ABS, expressed confidence in the partnership's ability to pioneer innovations in hydrogen technology for maritime applications.
