ACWA Power, a Saudi developer of green hydrogen plants, has embarked on ambitious plans to create a green hydrogen and renewable energy export value chain between Saudi Arabia and Europe. Under the Ministry of Energy's supervision, ACWA Power has signed agreements to collaborate on the Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub, which is set to begin commercial operations by 2030. This hub will be a comprehensive facility with its own renewable electricity generation, desalination plants, hydrogen electrolysis, ammonia conversion facilities, and an export terminal.
Furthermore, ACWA Power has entered into multiple agreements and MoUs with European companies like Edison S.p.A., TotalEnergies Renewables SAS, and EnBW to assess market demand, develop renewable energy projects in Saudi Arabia, and establish a corridor for delivering electricity to Europe. The company has also signed individual MoUs with various entities to enhance energy transmission corridors and cross-border infrastructure.
In collaboration with Germany's Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE), ACWA Power aims to establish a hydrogen bridge between Saudi Arabia and Germany, with an initial target of supplying 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030. Additionally, partnerships with Italy's Snam are exploring opportunities for joint investments in creating a green hydrogen supply chain from Saudi Arabia to Europe. These initiatives signify ACWA Power's commitment to advancing green hydrogen technology and renewable energy exports on an international scale.
