Hydrogène de France (HDF Energy), a pioneering SME based in Blanquefort, near Bordeaux, has recently received €172 million in European aid. This grant is part of the fourth Major Project of Common European Interest (PIIEC) program, which aims to support emerging sectors and disruptive technologies focused on energy transition and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The aid is designated to assist HDF Energy in developing and producing high-power fuel cells essential for decarbonizing industrial and transport sectors by converting hydrogen into electricity. The European aid program, released on May 28, supports 11 companies across seven European countries, including both SMEs like HDF Energy and industrial giants like Airbus and BMW. HDF Energy's plans include the mass production of high-power fuel cells ranging from 1.5 to 10 MW by 2026, contributing to decarbonization in heavy transport. By linking these fuel cells to renewable energy sources, the company aims to replace older coal- and oil-fired power plants, ensuring stability and sustainability in Europe's electricity grids. HDF Energy's growth strategy involves expanding its Blanquefort workforce from 100 to 500 employees by 2030, underlining its commitment to innovation and sustainable energy solutions. The company's collaborations with partners like Captrain and ABB Marine International indicate its dedication to driving progress in the green hydrogen sector.
