H2Brazil, under the leadership of CEO Pedro Caçorino, is gearing up to invest over 1.3bn euros in two significant green hydrogen projects in Brazil. The primary project involves constructing a plant in the export processing zone (ZPE) of Uberaba, Minas Gerais state, with an 820MW electrolyzer to produce low carbon hydrogen and green ammonia. The secondary initiative will establish a smaller green hydrogen plant in Açu port, Rio de Janeiro state. These projects are strategically located in areas with access to renewable energy and aim to cater to both local and global demand for green hydrogen. The affordability of green hydrogen production in Brazil, costing 2.50 euros/kg, is highlighted by Caçorino, making it competitive with gray hydrogen in the country and significantly cheaper than green hydrogen in Europe. This cost-efficiency is attributed to Brazil's predominantly green electricity matrix and favorable conditions for power purchase agreements. With preliminary environmental licenses secured, both projects are slated to commence operations in 2027. H2Brazil's vision is to establish Brazil as a key player in the global green hydrogen and ammonia market, leveraging its renewable energy potential and existing infrastructure. The initiative not only aims to meet demand but also to position Brazil as a benchmark for green hydrogen production on a global scale.
