United Living Infrastructure Services has contracted Penspen Ltd. for detailed engineering work on the CO2 transportation pipeline and above ground installations for HyNet North West project in the UK. The pipeline will carry captured carbon from Stanlow industrial emitters to the Liverpool Bay carbon capture and sequestration site at Point of Ayr, utilizing a mix of new assets and existing infrastructure. The route will include block-valve stations and AGIs. Additionally, Essar Energy Transition plans to construct Europe's first 100% hydrogen-fueled power plant at the Stanlow refinery, with completion targeted for 2027. HyNet North West, supported by government funding, is set to deploy CCS and low-carbon hydrogen infrastructure at a large scale, encompassing a hydrogen production plant, transport network, and storage facilities, with captured carbon stored in depleted hydrocarbon fields in the Irish Sea. Penspen estimates that the HyNet project could potentially reduce CO2 emissions by up to 10 million tonnes per year by the 2030s.
