Key Ideas
  • Coal India (CIL) plans to supply 4500 MW of carbon-free energy to AM Green's green ammonia facilities using solar and wind power.
  • The agreement includes setting up 2500-3000 MW of solar power and 1500-2000 MW of wind power with a total investment of around Rs 25,000 crore.
  • AM Green will utilize pumped hydro storage to ensure a steady supply of green energy and aims to produce 5 million tonnes of green ammonia by 2030.
  • This partnership aligns with India's National Green Hydrogen Mission and signifies a commitment towards a greener and more sustainable energy future.
Coal India (CIL) has entered into an agreement to provide 4500 MW of carbon-free energy to AM Green's green ammonia facilities. This energy supply will be a combination of solar and wind power, with CIL planning to set up 2500-3000 MW of solar capacity and 1500-2000 MW of wind capacity across India. The total investment for these renewable energy projects is estimated to be around Rs 25,000 crore. AM Green, a company promoted by the founders of Greenko, aims to produce 5 million tonnes of green ammonia annually by 2030. This production target also includes about 1 million tonnes of green hydrogen, contributing significantly to India's green hydrogen production goals under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The integration of solar and wind power supplied by CIL will be complemented by pumped hydro storage to ensure a continuous and reliable supply of green energy to AM Green's facilities. The partnership between CIL and AM Green signifies a step towards a greener and more sustainable future in India's energy sector. Both companies expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing their commitment to becoming key players in the production of green hydrogen, green ammonia, and other sustainable energy solutions on a global scale.
