Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh has urged officials of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) to investigate the feasibility of introducing buses powered by green hydrogen in the state. The government's goal is to transform Himachal Pradesh into a 'green energy state' by March 2026. This ambitious vision includes plans for the adoption of green hydrogen buses to support sustainable transportation. Additionally, the Chief Minister announced the addition of 297 new electric buses (Type-I) by 2026, with further plans to procure 30 electric buses (Type-II). These initiatives aim to enhance transport services, especially in the region's challenging terrain. Sukhu also emphasized the need for modernization within HRTC, directing the corporation to streamline processes by introducing an online system for discounted bus passes and implementing real-time bus tracking. The focus on digital technology is further highlighted with plans to transition HRTC headquarters to an e-office system. Furthermore, the government's commitment to the corporation's success is evident through the upcoming construction of a new HRTC workshop in Theog, Shimla district. The holistic approach to sustainability and efficiency showcased in these directives signifies a positive step towards a greener and more advanced transport network in Himachal Pradesh.
